On August 26th the Flames cross country program will host its inaugural Hills Take Skills Pre-Season Challenge. The race will be held at the 4H Regional Educational Center here in Front Royal, and features some gnarly hills (hence, the name). The race is open to teams or individual runners in the following age categories: high school students (ages 14-18) will run a 5k, middle school students (ages 11-13) will run a 3k, and elementary school students (ages 6-10) will run a 2k. You do not have to be homeschooled to participate - anyone is welcome!
Thanks to our phenomenal sponsor, Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen, runners will have bibs with timing chips. 4H is going sell a wide range of food for runners, friends and families who come to watch. The course has been designed to ensure the crowd can cheer on the runners at multiple points on the trail, and while entry fees have not been set, they will be kept minimal to ensure broad participation. It will be a great race for runners of all abilities. The race website, HillsTakeSkills.com, will feature online registration and should go live in the next 10 days. I will provide a link as soon as it is up and running. Sign up! Spread the word! Go Flames!
